A POEM FOR CARLY
So here’s a story of a tale that’s very sweet and needs to be told. A girl named Carly was studying her trade, to be a nurse to care for people someday.
She toiled, sleepless crazy nights to keep up her grades & be in the top spot on Tech’s nursing stage. One day came when she had to show off her skills and destiny arrived in such a surprise with a curly-haired handsome guy.
He was the guniea pig for her IV exam, to she if her nursing skills would stick for her new life plan. Finally after 3 or 4 attempts the IV finally went, and a crush begin forming right in their midst. Soon after this encounter Jamin was smitten & decided he had to find the digits to this new IV nurse who had caught his attention.
A study date assumed over Facebook messenger, and a Saints game was dropped to meet Carly that one fateful night. Over books about nursing, conversation came with coffee in hand they realized they might just have discovered more than just a friend.
More study dates came and went until finally Jamin asked Carly on a first real date. Dinner, dessert, even some piano playing and all things went good on that wonderful evening! It was a perfect night in Carly’s eyes that this guy she had stuck with a needle was becoming somewhat of a pleasant surprise.
Fast forward two years later, a nursing pinning success Carly had graduated from their beloved school, called Tech. They both worked nights and days of sleepless shifts at the St. Fran.
Then Carly got a break to escape on a Seattle vacay with her fave (that’s ME), exploration at Pike’s Place with coffee always near, we enjoyed three days playing all over the place. We headed off to the mountains to see Franklin Falls, and without having a clue her beau had found his way there too.
Jamin arrived Patagonia jacket and hat, to ask his beautiful Carly to spend forever being his favorite of all and that’s a fact! With tears welling up in shock and disbelief as Jamin knelt to his knees Carly said yes with no hesitation she was so very pleased. A life was about to begin with craziness just around the bend, but they had said yes for all life would offer.
And long long ago….
We met in Chemistry in 11th grade. I used to think I would never be cool enough to be friends with the cool “cheerleader”. But Carly Caroline Hogg was such a surprise. She was an amazing gift into my life almost 10 years ago. She is never afraid of inserting her honesty & truth into your life, but knows exactly when you need to hear encouraging words too. She is a contagious energy of intriguing genuineness and realness. She has a heart that gives more than people realize and is sensitive to the hurts, hopes and dreams people carry with them. Over the past 10 years of learning Carly, or enjoying late night talks, dance parties, spontaneous road trips of nothingness & adventure, crying over Grey’s Anatomy or sitting at Sonic for happy hour. Carly is intentional in the time and people she chooses to spend it with, she values loyalty and the people who invest just as much time into her as she does them. Carly is a treasured gem even when most of the time she would never realize or even consider herself that in the slightest. But Carly is a rare one, a woman who needs the exact guy to value, adore and let her be her. Let her be the best version of herself in all aspects of life, and as soon as I met Jamin I knew that’s exactly who he would be for her.
Jamin you have changed Carly’s world and from the perspective of someone who has spent intentional time with her, I have been able to happily watch the transformation for the best. You have brought out her softness and compassion, her goofiness and ridiculousness. You allow her to be independent and don’t squash what makes her so invigoratingly strong. You have been a dream to my bestie and for that I am thankful the Lord brought both of you together to do life, together and change others lives in the process. In the midst of all this I have found such a treasured friendship with you as well. Never did I think we would have commonalities at all, but I have enjoyed the refreshing and real talks, our sports talk annoying for Carly, and you becoming such a big brother that I have never ever had and am so grateful for the way you not only care for Carly, her family but also her friends. You are now my brother always and have a place in my heart for loving my Carly the way you do.
Even though they had to hurry their day because of the amazing opportunity they were offered in NOLA at two amazing hospitals, they rocked the quick wedding day with such ease. It was absolutely the most intimate and sweet day for these two spent with their closest friends and family saying sweet yes’ to forever under an old oak tree.
I love you guys and miss you terribly but know this is the beginning of the great adventure & I can’t wait to get to be able to watch all God does and accomplishes in you both!
